Amongst the temples of ancient Angkor I found serenity and peace;
in the Killing Fields I felt incredible sorrow.
Cambodia was the country that really inspired my wanderlust on one of my first overseas trips. I fell in love with the friendliness of the locals, the incredible aromatic food and the beauty of the Angkor temples at sunrise. I cried in unimaginable sorrow at the mass graves of the Killing Fields. I felt ill at the persecution experienced by so many Cambodians at Tuol Sleng Prison.
For me, this was more than a trip. It was learning about a country, a history, a people and a culture so foreign to me. No wonder it inspired me to continue my travels, particularly in Asia, to learn more about myself and more about the world.
